The role of an Operations Assistant is unique compared to other roles due to its combination of hand-on support, logistical coordination, and adaptability in a dynamic healthcare setting. Oas have multifaceted responsibilities such as juggling various tasks, including patient transport, equipment setup, and stock management. Operations Assistants work closely with nurses and surgeons and allied health professionals. The role requires physical stamina for tasks like moving equipment and patients, as well as mental agility to respond to urgent and unexpected demands. Employee to be available to work on a 7-day rotating roster, including on-call shifts and public holidays. Some key responsibilities include:  

  • Ensure safe patient transport and support clinical staff with deceased patient preparation and transfer to the morgue, maintaining effective communication and coordination throughout. 
  • Maintain operating theatre readiness through equipment setup, cleaning and maintenance of theatres, beds and trolleys, waste removal, and terminal cleaning procedures. 
  • Adhere to organisational policies and procedures while demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Selection Criteria

  • Describe your experience working in a healthcare or similar environment. How have you contributed to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient workplace while supporting the needs of patients and the clinical team?
  • This role requires working closely with nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists and other multidisciplinary team members in a busy operating theatre environment. Can you provide an example of how you have worked effectively as part of a team to achieve a positive outcome?
  • This position involves physically demanding tasks, including patient transport, manual handling, equipment setup, and responding to changing priorities. Describe a situation where you had to manage multiple tasks while maintaining patient safety and quality of service.
  • Are you aware of and acknowledge that this position requires the ability to work a 7-day rotating roster, covering mornings/afternoons/nights, weekends and Public Holidays?
