About us:
You’ll be joining a team at John Hunter Hospital (JHH) Emergency Department that values reliability, clear communication, and a positive, can-do attitude. Staff are approachable, collaborative, and appreciative of the contribution the Storeperson makes to keeping the department running smoothly. We support learning on the job, look out for one another, and take pride in delivering high-quality service to our patients and colleagues.
About the role:
The Storeperson role in the Emergency Department is a hands-on, practical position that supports the smooth and safe operation of a busy clinical environment. A typical day involves managing the flow of supplies and equipment to ensure clinical staff have what they need, when they need it.
Daily tasks include receiving and unpacking deliveries, restocking clinical and storage areas, monitoring stock levels, rotating inventory, and responding to urgent supply requests from emergency staff. The role also involves maintaining clean, organised storage areas and ensuring stock is stored in line with safety and infection control requirements.
About you:
You are a reliable, organised, and team-oriented individual who understands the vital role support staff play in delivering safe, high-quality patient care within a busy Emergency Department. You take pride in your work, bring a strong work ethic, and can be relied upon to turn up on time and complete tasks to a high standard.
You’re comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and can adapt quickly to shifting priorities. You communicate clearly and respectfully and work well with a diverse range of clinical and non-clinical staff. With strong attention to detail, you are committed to maintaining safety, cleanliness, and organisation at all times, and you have the physical capability to safely undertake manual handling tasks related to stock and equipment.
Support, orientation & training:
The successful applicant will be well supported to succeed in the role through a comprehensive local orientation to the hospital, Emergency Department, and stores environment. This will include workplace health and safety, infection prevention and control, and manual handling training to ensure safe and confident practice from day one.
You will be introduced to Emergency Department workflows, stock locations, and priority items, and will receive hands-on, on-the-job training alongside experienced team members. This includes shadowing opportunities and supervised shifts, as well as training in the systems, processes, and equipment used within the department. Ongoing support will be provided to help you build confidence and capability in the role.
