About the Opportunity
South Western Sydney Local Health District is committed to advancing nursing care delivery. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a Nursing and Midwifery Strategy Reserve grant funded, district wide ethics approved research project into empowering nurses to ‘Own The Yellow Zone’ (OTYZ). This role is a minumum of 20 hours per week, up to 38 hours per week.

The successful applicant/s will have experience in caring for deteriorating patients, leading staff development, novel educational development and delivery, and critical conversations. The applicant/s must have a passion for nursing empowerment and patient safety. This role will be a change agent, and the influential power of the applicant/s will contribute to the project’s success. Previous research experience is preferred.

The successful applicant/s will be supported by an Executive Steering Committee, service and facility Directors of Nursing and Midwifery, senior nursing leaders and the SWSLHD Nursing and Midwifery Research Alliance, all committed to enhancing nursing care delivery and patient safety.

What You'll be Doing
The SWSLHD CNC3 ‘Owning the Yellow Zone’ (OTYZ) Project Lead will lead a co-designed project to ethics standards to transform SWSLHD nursing approach to the deteriorating patient. The CNC3 OTYZ Project Lead will ensure the maintenance of a focus on the provision of high-level patient centered evidence based clinical nursing care, while driving innovation, empowering nurses to work to the top of their scope of practice.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an expert practitioner who, through leadership facilitates evidence based practice. The CNC will promote a service which fosters clinical excellence, research and professional leadership. The CNC contributes to quality health care by collaborating with the health care providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards and evaluating their outcomes. The CNC is responsible for providing services which facilitate effective management of the care.

The role will be responsible for the design and undertaking of research including preparation of ethics applications, conduct of research activities such as focus groups, surveys and interventional studies. This position will be expected to collaboratively produce high quality research reports and articles suitable for publication in peer reviewed journals.

Currently registered as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA with at least seven (7) years fulltime equivalent post registration clinical experience, with five (5) full time equivalent post graduate experience in a relevant field and possess approved postgraduate nursing qualification or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organization.
  2. What is your clinical experience and qualifications?
  3. Demonstrated experience in initiating and implementing changes to improve clinical service delivery through enhanced models of care to improve staff and patient care delivery.
  4. Highly developed clinical problem solving capabilities with proven ability in educating patients and other clinical staff.
  5. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, and successfully implement evidence based projects, quality activities and research relationships with a broad range stakeholders.
  6. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
