Biobank Research Scientist

- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Demonstrated experience in setting up and validating new methodologies in a research laboratory such as DNA and RNA extraction methodologies with associated statistical evaluation of scientific data.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the validation and delivery of automated and manual research support services relevant to a research laboratory, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as the Microsoft Office suite.
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with researchers and laboratory staff, along with procedure and report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate scientific data, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in activities essential for the conduct of clinical research including data collection, data security and integrity, maintenance of records/filling and understanding of Good Clinical Practice.
- Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a research laboratory including the ability to investigate and resolve general and complex issues.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the biobanking landscape in NSW including the legal, ethical and regulatory requirements working with human tissue for medical research, the key factors contributing to biobanking success, with demonstrated experience in biobanking or scientific/clinical research.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver and evaluate effective training for laboratory staff as well as proven ability to assist staff to achieve competency and service/unit objectives.
