About the Opportunity
Liverpool Hospital is a tertiary referral and teaching hospital who is committed to providing excellent quality care for women and their families.. Further your skills within midwifery by gaining experience with ongoing development of midwifery knowledge and practical skills.

You will be working with an amazing team which consists of Registered Midwives and Enrolled Nurses to care for women and their babies. Providing teamwork and support to the midwifery profession. Being able to upskill in the role with passed competency assessments. Provide direct care to women and their babies under the supervision of a Registered Midwife. Be trained to do hearing for newborns. Have excellent written, verbal and communication skills. Completion of their first year of Bachelor of Midwifery. Have the ability to work within the scope of practice of an AIM.

 

What You'll be Doing
The Assistant in Midwifery will assist the Registered Midwife with the planning, provision and documentation of patient care, working within the framework of the policies of SWSLHD, the Ministry of Health and the NSW legislative and statutory requirements.

 

Where You'll Be Working 
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

  1. Current enrollment in and successful completion of at least 2 semesters of a Bachelor of Midwifery with a satisfactory academic record and completion of at least 2 clinical placements.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work under supervision and provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive
  3. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs
  4. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise
  5. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of evidenced based care
  6. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace
  7. A thorough understanding of scope of practice and demonstrated ability to work within scope boundaries.
