An exciting opportunity exists to join the Palliative Care Department as an Unaccredited Trainee within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District!.
Where you'll be working
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

The Bulli Aged Care Centre of Excellence opened in August 2020 and is an innovative collaboration between ISLHD and the Illawarra Retirement Trust. The new $50.4 million Centre of Excellence has been specifically tailored to meet the requirements of the local population. The project included the construction of a new facility opposite the existing Bulli Hospital, to transform the site into a centre of excellence focussed on geriatric medicine. Bulli Hospital works closely with the Aged Care Specialist team at Wollongong Hospital to ensure a safe and timely transfer of patients who have completed an acute episode of care and require additional assessment, Sub-Acute medical management and planning for ongoing care needs. Bulli Hospital also provides outpatient Geriatric Services via the Geriatric Outpatient Therapy unit. This service is supported by a Geriatrician, Advanced Trainee in Aged Care, specialist nursing staff and Allied Health. The outpatient unit houses a therapy area and assessment area for patient appointments.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- A minimum of two (2) full years of postgraduate experience
- Able to demonstrate relevance of palliative care training to chosen career path
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills and judgement and expertise
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Sufficient skills knowledge and experience to practice as a safe and competent palliative care trainee
- Demonstrated commitment to participate in after hours, weekend and on-call rosters
- Moderate computer skills
