An exciting opportunity exists to join the Emergency Department as an Unaccredited Trainee across the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing
To provide emergency medical care to patients while developing experience and expertise under the supervision of Emergency Specialists within ISLHD. This is a District position and may involve (with the agreement of the candidate) working at any one or all of the following - Wollongong Hospital, Shellharbour Hospital and Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital Emergency Departments. 

The position of Unaccredited Trainee would suit a junior doctor of at least 3 years post graduate experience who wishes to gain clinical experience and training in Emergency Medicine prior to formal critical care training. The Unaccredited Trainee will participate in a seven-day per week roster which includes evening and night shifts and will demonstrate proficiency in the initial assessment and management of all medical and surgical emergencies in paediatric and adult patients.

ISLHD is an accredited provider of the Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program, which provides an alternative pathway for IMGs to AMC Part 2 Clinical Exam.  All candidates to the ISLHD WBA Program are current employees with a contract that incorporates the duration of the program.  Selection to the WBA Program is separate to the workplace recruitment process, is highly competitive and not guaranteed. Applicants are accessed via a merit-based process. Candidates require a rotational RMO or Emergency Department position to apply.

    Selection Criteria:

    1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
    2. At least three years' post graduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent)
    3. Significant experience in an Australian Emergency Department or equivalent
    4. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
    5. Effective oral and written communication skills and demonstrated good organisational and time management skills
    6. Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education
    7. Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the District to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a 7 day per week / 24 hours per day shift work roster
    8. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
