A unique opportunity is available for a skilled and passionate speech pathologist to join the speech pathology team at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH). This permanent part-time senior speech pathology position will provide clinical leadership and expertise in the speciality area of paediatric feeding within the paediatric caseload, specifically paediatric feeding.

What you'll be doing

This senior clinician is responsible for the assessment, intervention and management of the paediatric inpatient population in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Special Care Nursery/ High Dependency Area (SCN), the paediatric and maternity wards, and through speciality outpatient interventions via the multidisciplinary feeding clinic. This position is also the lead in instrumental assessments for paediatric patients with Video-Fluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS) conducted in radiology.


The senior speech pathologist working in this speciality area of paediatric feeding acts as a resource to speech pathologists within the Local Health District (LHD) and provides a consultative service to clinicians across the state and beyond within the area of paediatric feeding.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology with eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia. Recent, extensive and varied post graduate clinical experience as a level 2 Speech Pathologist or above.
  2. Specialist clinical knowledge and advanced skills in providing assessment, intervention and management of paediatric feeding difficulties in medically fragile infants.
  3. Experience in assisting family/carers to facilitate communication development and feeding skills in 'at risk' families.
  4. Demonstrated extensive clinical skills and knowledge in independently supervising, conducting and reporting on paediatric instrumental swallow assessments, such as VFSS and FEES.
