About the Opportunity
The Healthy Places team in SWSLHD Population Health takes a unique approach to optimising the health of the South Western Sydney population, focusing on the built environment determinants of health and collaborating with partners to improve population health through planning and design.
The role supports a health in all policies approach, working to embed health as a priority in government decision-making outside the health sector, especially in local government and agencies responsible for planning, placemaking and development.
The role supports our formal partnerships with local councils, working with jointly funded officers to share knowledge and build healthy built environments capacity across partner councils and Population Health.
Role entails:
- Contributing to healthy planning and placemaking initiatives.
- Building and maintaining relationships with built environment practitioners, decision-makers and researchers in local government, the not-for-profit sector, the private sector and academia.
- Supporting business processes in Population Health with a specific focus in healthy places and relationships with local government.
- Contributing to strategic priority projects and business priorities for the District, Population Health and the Collaboration Unit.
The role reports to the Manager, Healthy Places, and works closely with one other Healthy Places Senior Project Officer.
The Healthy Places team sits within the Collaboration Unit, and the role works closely with other Senior Project Officers in Collaboration as well as the Director.
The Healthy Places team looks after formal partnerships with several local councils, and the role is instrumental in building and maintaining these relationships – this includes partnership officers employed by councils and co-funded by SWSLHD Population Health.
The role supports a number of other internal and external relationships, including non-partnership councils, other government agencies, health alliances, researchers, NGOs, and the development sector.
What You'll be Doing
The Project Officer contributes to healthy urban development and environments projects and strategies, supports business processes in Population Health with a specific focus in healthy places and relationships with local government and contributes to district and population health strategic priority projects and business priorities of the Healthy People and Places Unit.

- Tertiary qualifications in relevant health-related discipline or relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in health service planning, and/or policy development, and/or project management and/or health services research.
- Demonstrated organisational and coordination skills including the ability to develop and sustain partnerships with internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated high level analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to gather, analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative information.
- High level communication skills including interpersonal skills, oral presentation skills and report writing using standard office software.
- High level understanding of evidence-based practice, healthy urban development, health outcome measurement, and emerging trends in the Australian health care system.
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
