What you'll be doing
The Senior Health Promotion Officer works to improve the health of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander individuals and the community to reduce health inequality by raising awareness of healthy lifestyles, disease and disability, and other health-related issues.




Selection Criteria

  1. This is a targeted position. Preference will be given to applicants of Aboriginal heritage. The position is targeted under S21 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criteria. In the event there are no suitable Aboriginal applicants, submissions from non-Aboriginal applicants will be considered.
  2. Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and eligibility for membership of an appropriate Australian professional association OR experience in a relevant health promotion related field.
  3. Proven ability and experience in Aboriginal community development and health education and promotion.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of current Commonwealth, State and Local and Aboriginal health priorities and demonstrated networking skills and knowledge of local Aboriginal resources.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to principles of evidence informed practice and ability to safely use innovative approaches where necessary.
  6. Excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively collaborate and consult with others, respectfully persuade others in relation to key messages and write clearly and succinctly.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  8. Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
