The Marie Bashir Clinical Research Provisional Fellowship in Adolescent Health is available at The Children's Hospital at Westmead for the 2025 Clinical Year, from 03 February 2025 to 01 February 2026. This Provisional Fellowship was named after the former Governor of New South Wales and former Chancellor of the University of Sydney, Professor Marie Bashir. The Marie Bashir Fellowships acknowledge the great role that she played in the development of adolescent mental health services in New South Wales and her abiding concerns for youth health care, particularly for those at the margins of society.

The work that the Provisional Clinical Research Fellow in Adolescent Health undertakes is a combination of clinical care and clinical research. The position would suit either a Paediatric or Adult Medicine Advanced Trainee, including trainees undertaking sub-specialty training where Adolescent and Young Adult patients might form a significant proportion of their clinical work. This position is accredited for advanced dual training in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for 6 months Core A and 6 months Core B.

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. Registered with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as an Advanced Trainee (AT) (preferably in the final year of training).
  3. 3-6 months experience in relevant subspecialty or equivalent preferable.
  4. Previous experience in either: a) clinical management of adolescents and/or some experience in adolescent health b) basic knowledge of clinical research processes and methods c) elected training pathway where adolescent and young adult medicine training relevant d) possible interest in RACP AYAM training.
  5. Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.
  6. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff.
  7. Demonstrated contribution to the development of hospital services e.g. participation in Paediatric Junior Staff matters, representation on behalf of the Hospital, participation in Hospital Committees preferable.
