Where you'll be working
The Diabetes Education and Health Assessment Unit offers a broad range of services for patients with diabetes within the NSLHD. These services include diabetes education and diabetes management for patients with Type 1, Type 2 and diabetes in pregnancy. The young adult with Type1 diabetes, in particular those young patients transitioning from paediatrics to the adult setting, are a specialty of the unit. The unit has a multidisciplinary team which involves close liaison with allied health, specialist endocrinologists and complication assessment to ensure a rounded package for the patients with diabetes.

What you'll be doing
The Nurse Manager Diabetes will work in partnership with the Clinical leads for Diabetes to provide leadership and direction to achieve the current and future strategic and operational goals of the service. The service currently provides:
- Comprehensive education and management of Type1, Type 2 Diabetes and diabetes in pregnancy.
- Transition and services for adolescent patients with Type 1 diabetes including insulin pump programs/management.
- Complication screening allied with case management and health coaching.
- Strong partnership with allied health services including dietetics and podiatry, to achieve best outcomes for patients
- Group education for Type 1 and Type 2 patients.
- Individual education for patients with Type1 , Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
- Ward liaison for in- patients with diabetes
- Professional development on all aspects of diabetes for the staff
- Research development programs
- An integrated administrative support service.
The Nurse Manager Diabetes:
- Is responsible for the delivery of the nursing and other components of Diabetes services
- Oversees quality initiatives relevant to Diabetes services and the NSLHD inclusive of EQuIP and the National Standards
- Manages all rosters and leave applications for staff with due consideration to maintaining service provision
- Manages rotation of staff within the unit to ensure staff expertise in diabetes management is maintained and improved
- Ensures sound financial management of the unit
- Ensures that effective systems are in place to plan, facilitate and evaluate services for the care of patients with diabetes.
- Analyses relevant clinical risks and implements appropriate strategies as required.
- Provides leadership and facilitates consultancy for maintaining, developing and reviewing systems and processes that promote timely patient care and patient flow
- Ensures optimal patient outcomes by promoting an environment embracing best practice through staff development and research
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.
Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Registered Nurse Division 1
- Recognised tertiary management qualification and/or a combination of study and equivalent experience in an acute hospital setting and relevant post graduate clinical experience.
- Demonstrated interest in contemporary health care delivery issues impacting diabetes and bone densitometry services
- Proven leadership ability and demonstrated evidence of achieving innovative change within a service framework.
- Demonstrated operational, financial and human resource experience at middle management level
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Hold a current NSW Drivers Licence
