What you'll be doing

Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) Mental Health Services are committed to building a professional Mental Health Peer Workforce that supports consumers living with mental illness and distress in their recovery journey. The Mental Health Peer Workforce in MNCLHD is comprised of employees who have a lived or living experience of mental ill health, suicide and recovery, in additional to life and work skills.  The Peer Workforce is vital in providing peer support and guidance to consumers and insights from their personal lived experience perspective to colleagues of the Mental Health Service and other stakeholders.

The Assertive Suicide Prevention Outreach Service (SPOT) is part of the Towards Zero Suicides Initiative and aims to reduce deaths by suicide and suicide attempts by providing rapid, appropriate and compassionate support to people at risk of suicide in the community.  This contemporary service is staffed by peer workers with lived experience of suicide and clinicians who provide recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care as a multidisciplinary team. The service will run 7 days a week on a roster including after hours, weekends and public holidays.
The Peer Worker (SPOT) will be required to contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a quality service, in cooperation and collaboration with other relevant services and agencies. The Peer Worker will be required to work after hours and on weekends.

This is a Category A position. Recommended applicants will be reviewed for compliance with NSW Health policy directive for Category A positions prior to offer.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s.  These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx.
