About the role:

We are seeking a dedicated Enrolled Nurse to join our dynamic Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Unit. In this role, you will provide exceptional pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing cardiothoracic and vascular surgeries. Our unit is known for its strong support system, with daily access to Clinical Nurse Educators, even after hours. You'll be responsible for planning patient care, collaborating with healthcare teams, advocating for patients and families, and managing complex wounds and discharge planning. Strong clinical assessment, time management, and communication skills are essential, and experience in wound care is highly regarded.

We offer a rotating roster for work-life balance, comprehensive orientation, supernumerary days, and mentorship from senior nurses. You will also benefit from ten educational sessions by our multidisciplinary team, plus hands-on experience in the cardiothoracic theatres. Our supportive manager will guide your professional development through regular reviews and training. Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery experience is preferred but not required.

John Hunter Hospital is situated within the Hunter New England Local Health District, ideally positioned between stunning beaches and the renowned Hunter Valley vineyards, just an hour's drive away. The hospital offers easy access to public transport and is conveniently located near several public schools and major shopping centres.

The NSW Government has committed $835 million to redevelop the John Hunter and John Hunter Children's Hospital. The John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct project will deliver an innovative and integrated precinct with industry-leading facilities.  The project will work in collaboration with health, education, and research partners to meet the current and future needs of the greater Newcastle, Hunter New England, and Northern NSW regions.
