John Hunter Hospital offers a variety of Enrolled Nursing opportunities across Medical and Interventional Services and Surgical Services, with both full-time and part-time roles. Medical and Interventional Services:
- E1 General Medicine: Provides comprehensive care for patients with diverse acute and chronic medical conditions. Nurses on E1 work closely with multidisciplinary teams, gaining broad experience in acute care, chronic disease management, and patient-centred support.
- Medical Assessment Coordination Unit (MACU): Focuses on the rapid assessment, diagnosis, and stabilisation of patients with acute medical conditions. It serves as an entry point for patients needing timely intervention and coordinated care. Nurses in MACU work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support swift patient transitions to appropriate care pathways.
- F2 Respiratory: Specialises in Respiratory, Immunology, Infectious Disease, Rheumatology, and Dermatology, providing hands-on experience in high-flow oxygen administration and non-invasive ventilation.
- G3 Cardiology and Gastroenterology: Focuses on cardiology and gastroenterology, with additional exposure to trauma, neurology, and orthopaedics. Provides training in cardiac monitoring and minor procedures.
- Rankin Park North and South: Leading rehabilitation units. North ward focuses on neurological recovery, while South ward specialises in post-amputation and deconditioning care, offering goal-driven, multidisciplinary patient care.
Surgical Services:
- E2 Urology: Specialising in urology and ophthalmology, while also managing cases in orthopaedics, general surgery, neurosurgery, and gynaecology. Nurses in E2 gain hands-on experience with diverse patient needs, from pre and post-surgical care to complex patient management.
- E3 Elective Orthopaedics: Focuses on pre and post-operative orthopaedic care, also covering Trauma, General/Acute Surgery, and Vascular care.
- G2 Neurology & Neurosurgery: Specialises in the care of patients with neurological conditions and those undergoing neurosurgical procedures. Nurses in this unit manage complex cases, providing pre and post-operative care, as well as monitoring for neurological changes.
- J3 General Surgery: Provides care for patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures, including colorectal and upper gastrointestinal surgeries. Nurses in this unit assist with pre and post-operative care, patient education, and recovery.
- G1S Trauma/Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT): Specialises in the care of trauma patients and those with ENT conditions requiring surgical intervention. Nurses in this unit provide critical care, assist with post-surgical recovery, and manage complex patient needs.
- F3 Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery: Specialises in the care of patients undergoing heart, lung, and vascular surgeries. Nurses in this unit provide pre and post-operative care, assist with complex procedures, and manage critical recovery stages.
