About the Opportunity 
The Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit / Community Team is recruiting for a highly motivated Diversional Therapist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team.

The Liverpool Brain Injury Unit (BIRU) strives to provide high quality rehabilitation services and outcomes to patients/clients.  In addition to NSW Health’s CORE values, Liverpool BIRU values innovation, evidence-based practice and adaptability.

The Diversional Therapist will be part of highly experienced multidisciplinary team (MDT) that works collaboratively to meet the complex needs of the patients/clients.

 

What You'll be Doing
This position is responsible for leading, managing and providing high quality diversional therapy services to clients of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit (BIRU) encompassing Inpatient, Transitional Rehabilitation and Community Services. As a senior clinician, the Diversional Therapist will be responsible for the provision of an efficient and effective diversional therapy service through the application of high level clinical expertise and knowledge in the management of patients with traumatic brain injuries.

 

Where You'll Be Working 

  • Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.
  • The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.
  • Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
  • Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.
  • Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

  1. Bachelor Degree in Diversional Therapy, Leisure and Health or Therapeutic Recreation which provides eligibility for full membership of Diversional and Recreation Therapy Australia
  2. Demonstrated extensive clinical experience working with adults with traumatic brain injuries or people with disability/complex needs.
  3. Demonstrated advanced skills in leisure education and counselling and ability to implement best practice Diversional Therapy programs
  4. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, apply independent professional judgement when dealing with complex cases and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated understanding of therapeutic interpersonal skills, time management & computer literacy
  6. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning /continuing professional education
  7. Demonstrated experience in providing clinical leadership, consultation, supervision and education for staff and/or students.
  8. Demonstrated experience leading the planning and implementation of quality improvement, research and service development activities
  9. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
