What you'll be doing

The position holder will provide high level strategic advice and make recommendations to the Director Aboriginal Health on programs, planning and resources required for the provision of effective, safe, accessible and culturally respectful health services. Contribute to policy advice in relation to planning strategic activities including the development, planning, management and evaluation of health and education programs and other projects that directly affect Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people. Contribute to culturally safe and appropriate health service delivery to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people in NSLHD. 

 

Northern Sydney Local Health District deems it appropriate to seek confirmation of Aboriginality status from applicants applying for Aboriginal identified positions. Confirmation of Aboriginality can be provided as evidence via:

a) a confirmation with a common seal on it from an Aboriginal organisation; or

b) a reference letter stating that the person is Aboriginal and accepted by community. (The letter must be supplied by an Aboriginal organisation)

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  2. Relevant tertiary qualifications in a health related field and/or extensive relevant experience in Aboriginal Health, primary health care.
  3. Demonstrated ability to conduct service needs analyses, experience working with the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities and experience in developing and implementing high-level strategic plans and detailed project Demonstrated ability in project management, social emotional well-being issues and other health initiatives and programs to achieve positive health outcomes for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people in NSLHD.
  4. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, provide high level advice to the Director Aboriginal Health and Chief Executive through the Aboriginal Health Advisory Committee (AHAC) and the Sydney Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Health Partnership (SMLAHP) in order to influence stakeholder engagement and effect positive change.
