Community Clinician Child and Youth Mental Health Safeguards program
An exciting opportunity exists for a Health Clinician to join the community-based Child and Youth Mental Health Safeguards team. The team provides rapid, mobile, intensive and flexible short-term delivery of skilled evidence-based therapeutic interventions. This may include individual and family therapy, parenting interventions, group work, and systemic intervention in collaboration with wider systems (e.g., educational, non-government, DJC, and private providers).
Safeguards services will operate a proportion of its services in extended hours (e.g., early evening, weekends) to improve access to intervention for children, young people, and their families after school or work (penalty rates applicable for after-hours).
Employment Type: Temporary Part Time until 30 June 2025 (with possibility of ongoing employment)

What you'll be doing
- attachment informed brief therapy for young people experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviour
- applied Dialectical Behaviour Therapy- A (DBT-A) and attachment based safety planning intervention; parenting and family therapy for emotion and behavioural problems
- assessment and brief systemic consultation for children and young people presenting with acute mental health problems.
NSLHD Child Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) has an excellent track record in developing and implementing innovative and strengths-based therapeutic interventions. The Safeguards program will work alongside and be integrated with our established programs to provide a new early and brief intervention program.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Nursing. Clinical Psychologists must have minimum postgraduate Masters degree or higher in Clinical Psychology and current registration with AHPRA. For Social Work, experience as a Level 2 clinician and eligibility for membership of AASW. Occupational Therapist must have current AHPRA registration and experience as a Level 2 clinician. Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 must have AHPRA registration as a registered nurse and relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification.
- Relevant clinical mental health experience in a community setting which includes working with children and/or adolescents and their families.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the assessment, formulation and treatment of infant, child and adolescent mental health problems and family relationship problems.
