Central Coast Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department: 

The Career Medical Officer position involves general experience in labour ward management and gynaecology operating. Provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation. The department also offers training opportunities for CMO grade doctors including access to consultants on the floor training and attendance at regular morbidly and mortality meetings.  CCLHD have an active training program that is available for all Medical Officers.

Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.

Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services. Another development is the Wyong Women’s Centre, due for completion at the end of 2024. This will provide more accommodation for antenatal and gynaecology outpatient clinics.  In addition, there will be two procedure rooms for more outpatient procedures to be performed,

In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  2. Aus/NZ/Competent Authority: Completion of a minimum of 4 post graduate years or more working in an acute hospital setting with a minimum of 12 months Obstetrics & Gynaecology a Career Medical Officer, Trainee or Senior Resident Medical Officer.
  3. Standard Pathway Applicants: Completion of a minimum of 6 post graduate years or more working in an acute hospital setting with a minimum of 2 years in an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department working as a Career Medical Officer or Trainee.
  4. Demonstrates ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment, and expertise, with demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  7. Demonstrated time management, problem solving skills and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute. Along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with minimum of 30 words per minute.
  8. Demonstrated understanding of how the District is Caring for the Coast and how this role would contribute.
