What you'll be doing

All staff are expected to act as an appropriate and effective role model and promote culture and supporting practices that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients, clients and employees.
Assistants in Midwifery (AIM) are gaining experience in the ongoing development of both midwifery knowledge and practice skills. The AIM will provide support to women and families in the care of their baby by providing support to the midwives in their role of caring for women. The AIM MUST always work under the supervision of a Registered Midwife.

This position will assist the AIM to develop midwifery skills within the scope of practice of an AIM. Provide support to the midwifery team in the delivery of midwifery care in a maternity environment as directed by a registered midwife. Provide direct care activities to women and their babies in accordance with the critical pathways and midwifery care plans under the supervision of a Registered Midwife. 

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Completion of clinical and academic requirements of the second year of Bachelor of Midwifery, and currently enrolled in the programme with clinical placement at the Royal Hospital for Women.
  2. Understanding of Women Centred Care and Family Centred Care.
  3. Ability to work as a team member of a multidisciplinary team.
  4. Excellent written, verbal and communication skills.
  5. Demonstrate a clear understanding of the BFHI principles.
  6. Ability to work within the scope of practice of an AIM.
