Seeking a driven CMO to join our experienced and passionate team at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital. In this role, you will work in a supportive Emergency Department where your skills and experience provide direct care to patients of Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital Emergency Department.
About Us
Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region. Services on site include an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit. Shoalhaven Hospital is undergoing an exciting new redevelopment with completion schedule 2026.
The hospital is networked with other hospitals in the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District and is affiliated with the University of Wollongong, supporting the training of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health staff.

Career Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of outpatient settings. The CMO will participate in a seven day per week roster (inclusive of day, evening and night shifts) and it is expected that when working nights the CMO will function as Night In Charge
The Medical Officer is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must work as part of and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team, deal with matters of an urgent and sensitive nature, exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality. The CMO will work co-operatively within a team environment and actively contribute to team activities including proactively participating in team meetings and decision-making processes.
Being a mixed rural ED, Shoalhaven is perfect for developing skills and independence in a safe and supported environment. We offer supervision for the Emergency Medicine Certificate/Diploma and we are accredited by ACEM, RACGP, ACRRM.
• Deliver emergency care to the population of the ISLHD in accordance with the Ethics and Standards set by the NSW Medical Board and the objectives of the ISLHD Emergency Services Program.
• To provide effective medical services to patients under supervision and independently, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment.

• Supervision of the care provided by more junior medical staff in the Emergency Department.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia, Applicants will need General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia or at least level 3 supervision on limited or provisional registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Extensive clinical experience in Emergency Medicine
- Aus/NZ/Competent Authority: Completion of a minimum of 5 post graduate years and working in an acute hospital setting with a minimum of 12 months in an Australian Emergency Department as a Trainee or Career Medical Officer. Standard Pathway Applicants: completion of a minimum of 6 post graduate years and working in an acute hospital setting with a minimum of 2 years in an Australian Emergency Department working as a Trainee or Career Medical Officer.
- Advanced Resuscitation Skills for both Adult and Paediatric Emergency medicine including Rapid Sequence Endotracheal Intubation and familiarity of Invasive and non-invasive ventilation
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience and willingness to participate in clinical governance activities to ensure a clinically safe environment
