An exciting opportunity exists to join the Emergency Department at Shellharbour  Hospital.

Shellharbour Hospital is a 197 bed, acute facility providing a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services. The inpatient services include aged care, medical, surgical, mental health and acute medical assessment inpatient beds, plus a day surgery unit. The hospital also provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medical, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, as well as adolescent and adult mental health services.

The Career Medical Officer (CMO) is an integral part of the multidisciplinary health care team. The CMO will provide supervision to junior doctors and high quality medical services to patients of ISLHD under the supervision of specialist staff.  The CMO will participate in a rotating roster of days, evenings, nights and weekends and will have the opportunity to work at various hospitals across ISLHD.

ISLHD is an accredited provider of the Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program, which provides an alternative pathway for IMGs to AMC Part 2 Clinical Exam.  All candidates to the ISLHD WBA Program are current employees with a contract that incorporates the duration of the program.  Selection to the WBA Program is separate to the workplace recruitment process, is highly competitive and not guaranteed. Applicants are accessed via a merit-based process. Candidates require a rotational RMO or Emergency Department position to apply.

Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation. The applicant must be certified as compliant with Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases (nsw.gov.au) before employment can commence.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered  with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Five Years postgraduate experience or greater (CMO Grade 2) or less than five years postgraduate experience (CMO Grade 1)
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  4. Participation in after-hours roster commitments and rotations to other emergency departments in the ISLHD
  5. Sufficient skills knowledge and experience to practice as a safe and competent Emergency CMO. Post graduate Qualifications in or relevant to Emergency Medicine or significant experience in Emergency medicine.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently and to coordinate services across multiple providers
  7. Good leadership and teamwork skills
  8. Excellent time management and organisational skills
