An exciting opportunity exists to join the Illawarra Medical Network as a Basic Physician Trainee.

The Illawarra Medical Network (IMN) is the newest Basic Physician Training (BPT) Network in New South Wales consisting of three sites Wollongong, Shellharbour, and Bulli hospitals. The Network embodies the CORE values of NSW health, values growth mindsets, and respect for rich cultural diversity and caring responsibilities. The Network’s goal is to provide a balance between service provision and training with a supported and facilitated training experience to enable a trainee’s growth and development into a capable and confident physician, while understanding and respecting individual circumstances. The Network strives to align your experience with the values, policies and procedures of NSW Health’s Health and Education training Institute (HETI) and the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

We are closely affiliated with the University of Wollongong (UOW) and collaborate on education and research activities. An academic suite located at Wollongong Hospital supports both the Graduate School of Medicine and School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University. Trainees are invited to supervise and teach medical students on clinical placements and collaborate on research projects within ISLHD and UOW.

The IMN structures your training and ensures that your employment aligns with the RACP and HETI mandated guidelines for achieving certified training. The IMN delivers a structured teaching programme to enable examination success and develop your clinical process skills, medical expertise, and professionalism across the 3 training phases of the RACP, with a dedicated program for PREP1, PREP2, and PREP3.

Hospitals in the IMN are situated within the Illawarra, an hour south of Sydney. The IMN has the ability in NSW to offer trainees length of training contracts without the need to relocate as all facilities are in close proximity. The IMN also is linked closely with the local Advanced Training program providers. All BPT training terms have advanced training links and opportunities.
