Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW. It has a strong and proud history in education, research and provision of high quality clinical care. Royal North Shore Hospital provides specialty services including major trauma, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, neonatal intensive care, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology alongside acute medical, surgical, mental health, paediatric, cancer and maternity services.
The campus is also home to The Kolling – a medical research institute jointly governed with the University of Sydney

What you'll be doing
To provide effective clinical management of patients under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, quality assurance and medical education in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to the specialty of General Medicine and the Medical Assessment Unit, providing consultation to other departments and managing outpatients as needed. The General Medicine Trainee is expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of, and at the discretion of the Attending AMO with rotations to Hornsby (MAU), North Shore Private Hospital (Cardiology), Sydney Adventist Hospital (General & Respiratory & Medicine), Northern Beaches Hospital (General Medicine and Infectious Diseases/Endocrinology) and Coffs Harbour Hospital (MAU & Stroke rotations).
 
Applicants in the following categories are eligible to apply:   Advanced trainees wishing to complete General Medicine or Dual Training , basic physician trainees who have successfully completed the written component of the FRACP exam, and trainees who are eligible for top-up training in General Medicine following RACP assessment.   The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to General Medicine, excellent written and oral communication skills, and actively engage in teaching and quality assurance activities.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
  3. High level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience
  4. Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
  5. Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
  6. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Training program including education, research and training.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
