Where you will be working:
The successful applicant will become part of the DACS team that is based at Newcastle Community Health Centre, Newcastle. This team consists of multidisciplinary professions ranging from Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers and Administration Officers. You will work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team, providing holistic primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, family and community members who identify as having substance use challenges. Working alongside your team, you will collectively strive to assist clients reach and achieve better health outcomes.
About the role:
As a Drug and Alcohol Aboriginal Health professional, you will connect with community members, teams, services and virtual clinics. Your day comprises of providing support, advice, education and cultural expertise, and knowledge into best practices for DACS. You will also be an advocate and liaison for Aboriginal community member and kin.
You will be compassionate, enthusiastic and flexible in your work approach. You will be part of a larger multidisciplinary team where your cultural perspective and lens will ensure cultural safety and appropriate services are provided. Confidentiality and the ability to set good ethical boundaries is required, along with displaying personal resilience and facilitating culturally responsive care.
You will be supported by your Line Manager, the Aboriginal DACS Manager, immediate team members, DACS District Manager, fellow colleagues of the HNE DACS team; and, Aboriginal peers and programs that provide levels of cultural support and networking.
