About the role:

This role will see you deliver adaptable, holistic, and culturally appropriate health services to Aboriginal individuals and communities, aiming to improve health outcomes and enhance access to healthcare. You will offer advocacy, support, and coordination for Aboriginal patients within the hospital setting.

You will attend focus groups, National Standards meetings, and other identified meetings to provide an Aboriginal perspective to health care programs and services within the Lower Hunter. 

To aid your success in this role, you will be supported by the Maitland Site Senior, as well as an identified Cultural Supervisor who will provide you with cultural supervision. You will also have the opportunity to attend quarterly Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer meetings.

Team members are regularly supported to attend learning in line with their career development and area of employment.

Where you’ll be working:

You will be working as a part of the Maitland/Cessnock & Kurri Lower Hunter Health Service, sitting within the Social Work and Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer Team at Maitland Hospital.

About You:

We are looking for someone with skills in advocacy, consultation, and mediation. You should feel confident to share your experiences and insights within a group setting including Executive Management, Senior Management, and other stakeholders within the Health Service.

Requirements:

  • Holds, or aspires to hold, a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.


Additional Information:
 

  • To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable local candidate is identified for the position; in this instance, you may only be offered employment in line with the conditions and expiry date of your visa. 
  • An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time and temporary part time vacancies.
