About The Role
We are currently seeking enthusiastic and reliable Casual Switchboard Operators to join our hospital’s front-line communications team. If you're a calm and clear communicator, love being part of a team, and thrive under pressure, this could be the perfect role for you.
As a Switchboard Operator, you’ll be the first point of contact for internal and external callers, handling a high volume of calls (over 6,000 per day) with professionalism and care. Working as part of a dedicated 24/7 team, you’ll manage general enquiries, emergency communications, and coordinate paging and rosters for doctors, patients, and healthcare staff.
This role is more than answering phones — you’ll play a vital part in hospital operations, including:
- Responding to and directing incoming calls and enquiries
- Paging doctors, staff, and managing group alerts
- Supporting internal departments with outbound calls and message relay
- Assisting with hospital-wide emergency and disaster response communications
- Maintaining accurate communication logs to meet compliance standards
About You:
We're looking for someone who:
- Communicates clearly and compassionately over the phone and in person
- Can multi-task in a high-pressure environment
- Is highly organised and detail-oriented
- Has experience in a similar switchboard, reception, or customer service role (desirable)
- Is flexible and available for rotating shifts across a 7-day, 24-hour roster
- Works well both independently and as part of a team
Healthcare experience or familiarity with medical terminology is an advantage but not essential. Full training provided.
