Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals within the Department of Radiation Oncology.

Radiation treatment in Western Sydney LHD is provided at both Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals. Around 2,000 courses of radiation treatment are delivered each year across the two hospitals with Varian TrueBeams using Eclipse as the planning system and ARIA as the cancer record. The full spectrum of radiation treatment options is offered including orthovoltage, brachytherapy, total body irradiation, stereotactic body and brain as well as motion-management techniques and the care of paediatric patients. Excellent patient care and teamwork are at the core of everything we do. The department has a strong track record of teaching, training and research in radiation oncology.  

 

This breast cancer radiation oncology fellowship position provides the fellow an opportunity to gain a depth and breadth of knowledge about breast cancer, and develop leadership, teaching and organisational skills. The fellow will participate actively in breast cancer multi-disciplinary meetings, new and follow-up breast cancer clinics, inpatient consultations at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals as well as radiation treatment planning, according to a roster with 3 days per week of clinical commitments. Two days per week are allocated to research activities (with an existing portfolio of available research) with the expectation of submission of at least one manuscript or publication.

 

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months are eligible to apply.

  

The position will be for a period of 12 months commencing in August 2025.

 

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

 

Essential Requirements for Appointment

 

1.     Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award or be eligible for this by 2 February 2026. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must have completed all examinations of the RANZCR, Faculty of Radiation Oncology by the application closure date for this appointment. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license.

 

2.     Sound clinical knowledge in Radiation Oncology demonstrated   through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position

Selection Criteria

 

1.     Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical /Dental Practitioner including (CORE):

·       High level interpersonal and communication skills.

·       Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

·       Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.

2.     Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department (CORE).

3.     Commit to undertake clinical duties at both Blacktown and Westmead Hospitals according to the needs of the Radiation Oncology service for at least 60% of employed time.

4.     Commit to undertake teaching of radiation oncology trainees, JMOs and allied health staff.

5.     Agree to actively participate in quality assurance activities of the Department

6.     Commit to undertake a quality improvement or research project agreed by the Staff specialist group and   Director of Radiation Oncology
