The Mental Health Services Unit at The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN) is seeking a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) to join their team for a 12-month appointment up to 40 hours per week. The successful applicant will be primarily based at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, and will have clinical privileges at both sites across SCHN - Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH) & The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW).
What you'll be doing
The position of Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist will ensure;
• Clinical Services are focused on delivering excellent clinical care to children and supporting their families.
• Research and teaching is undertaken and focused on the area of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
SCHN Mental Health services at SCH and CHW have a number of clinical teams. The Psychiatrist may be required to work in any of the teams, according to service needs as determined by Clinical Directors of Mental Health at each site. The clinical teams are:
• Intellectual Disability/Developmental Disability Mental Health Team
• Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit
• Consultation-Liaison
• Eating Disorders Team
Clinical responsibilities for the Psychiatrist within the Department of Psychological Medicine include providing direct patient care, supervising the care provided by junior medical staff, and providing child psychiatric consultation to nonmedical team members.
Provide contemporary comprehensive specialist services for optimal patient outcomes.
Provide and support training to clinicians across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice.

- Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Psychiatrist and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
- Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Child & Adolescent Medicine at the role delineation of the service.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
- Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
- Demonstrates current CPD Certificate with an accredited clinical body if practicing over last 12 months in Australia or evidence for enrolment if less than 12 months in practice as a specialist.
