The Kids Cancer Centre (KCC) at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick are seeking a temporary 0.4 FTE (16 hours per week) Staff Specialist specialising in Cancer Genetics to join their team on a 12-month appointment basis.
What you'll be doing
The Clinical Geneticist (Cancer Genetics) will work within the Kids Cancer Centre (KCC), Sydney Children's Hospital Randwick (SCH) to provide leadership in cancer genetics diagnosis and management for children & young people with cancer whom have been identified as having or at risk of having a cancer risk syndrome. The position will also require collaboration with the Hereditary Cancer Service, located at Prince of Wales to ensure best care models for transition of care in adult survivors of childhood cancers and for management of young people identified as having a cancer inheritance risk. The position will also provide guidance for paediatric rare diseases across many disciplines within Sydney Children's Hospital in whom genomic sequencing is identifying a future cancer risk.
The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and encourage an academic environment which supports research and development.

- Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), or equivalent, Clinical Geneticist specialist qualification as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
- Demonstrated training, contemporary knowledge & technical expertise of cancer genetics within the specialty of Clinical Genetics, particularly in children and AYAs, is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment that includes cancer genetics as part of their model of care.
- Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
- Demonstrated commitment to basic, applied or clinical research, medical education & staff supervision & training.
- Demonstrated participation in teaching & training at undergraduate &/or postgraduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff & genetic counsellors both in training & accredited.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management and continuous improvement and the relevant accreditation processes required for delivering a cancer genetics service.
- Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, innovation, initiative, time management, commitment to professional development & the ability to work with, manage, motivate & lead a team.
