The Ambulatory Services department at Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN) are seeking permanent 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) Staff Specialists to join their team. The preferred minimum appointable fraction for this role is 0.4 FTE (16 hours per week). The role will be based at both SCHN sites - Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick & The Children's Hospital at Westmead. 

What you'll be doing
 

The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network is committed to transforming the way Ambulatory services are provided. The aim is to enhance the care provided to children and families enabling integrated care to be provided at home, close to home, or day only, aiming to avoid unnecessary overnight hospitalisation and unnecessary emergency department attendances. Ambulatory services encompass a number of services at both Westmead and Randwick to deliver innovative, patient focused care.  

The position is required to work across both Westmead and Randwick Ambulatory Services. 
Ambulatory Services includes;

  • Medical Day Units
  • Hospital in the Home (HiTH)
  • Acute Review Clinics (ARC)
  • Kids GPS care coordination service
  • VirtualKIDS


The Ambulatory Staff Specialist will be a key lead in SCHN clinician engagement to enable patient care to be provided at home, close to home or day only where possible. The Ambulatory Staff Specialist is expected to: 
       
 

  • Provide excellent clinical services to children and their families as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participate in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff
  • Abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews for clinical services in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

  1. Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Paediatrician, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
  2. Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Acute /Ambulatory Services at the role delineation of the service.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  4. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  6. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time.
  7. Demonstrated ability to consult and negotiate with key stakeholders across institutional boundaries and with community based providers in the development of services and/or models of care.
  8. Demonstrated ability to balance the management of complex projects and clinical responsibilities.
