The Mental Health Commission NSW is seeking interested applicants for the position Senior Evidence and Research Officer, Mental Health and Wellbeing Reform. This is an exciting opportunity to manage and deliver mental health and wellbeing projects and initiatives that drive systemic reform across NSW.
Role of Mental Health Commission NSW
The Mental Health Commission of New South Wales (the Commission) was established in July 2012. The Commission's purpose is to lead, drive and measure mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention reform across whole of government. Our progressive work shapes contemporary policies to achieve the best outcomes for the people of NSW.
The Commission works with government agencies, peak bodies, community-managed organisations, academics, advocacy groups and service providers. We believe this approach, with close collaboration in all aspects of our work, will achieve stronger services and better outcomes for all people in NSW.

Primary Purpose of the Role –
The Senior Project Officer is a member of the System Reform Directorate reporting to the Manager, Mental Health and Wellbeing Reform. The role manages a range of concurrent projects and initiatives either as a project lead and/or as part of a project team delivering complex strategy work.
The role oversees all aspects of project planning, development and implementation including developing project plans, coordinating resources, managing budgets, reporting requirements and evaluation to ensure project outcomes are achieved on time and on budget in line with established project management methodology.

You are a proactive, skilled professional with strong understanding of the mental health sector and a passion for driving system reform. Experienced in project and contract management, you thrive in high volume environments where you can display initiative, prioritise effectively, and deliver results on time. You engage confidently with diverse stakeholders, from government agencies to community organisations and peak bodies, building collaborative relationships that support reform. Whether working independently or as part of a team, you bring sound judgement, organisational skills, and a commitment to improving mental health and wellbeing outcomes across NSW.
Essential Requirements: (to be addressed in your application)
• Knowledge and strong analytical skills to interpret data, research findings, and policy trends to inform evidence-based recommendations on key areas relevant to mental health and wellbeing reform.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to organise and present complex information in a clear, logical and systematic way.
• Strong project and contract management skills.
• Relevant qualifications or equivalent work experience in a related field.
• Strong ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders including NSW Government agencies and community-based organisations and peak bodies.
• Ability to display initiative; sound organisational skills, capacity to multi-task, meet deadlines and prioritise work in a high-volume work area.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team setting.
• Knowledge and appreciation of the role of the NSW Mental Health Commission and a deep understanding of the mental health sector.
