This is a rare opportunity to lead a new pain research laboratory team with the Kolling Institute, working along-side our pain discovery basic scientists and collaborating closely with clinicians to improve the understanding of pain and therapeutics. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a future vision to contribute highly impactful research to the improve the lives of people living with pain.

Where you'll be working
The Pain Management Research Institute sits within the Kolling Institute, a joint collaboration between NSLHD and Sydney University. This role is employed through the Department of Pain Management RNSH as part of the extensive collaboration with PMRI researchers across clinical, laboratory, and academic spheres.

What you'll be doing
The Principal Hospital Scientist will lead a team with a Basic Science/Discovery approach to advance the understanding of pain neuroscience and therapeutic options for managing pain.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Degree in science or relevant field with at least ten years post graduate experience, with an emphasis on neurobiology mechanisms and extensive relevant experience as well as a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  2. Demonstrated experience and skills in the design of studies, interpretation of results, statistical analysis and preparation of scientific papers.
  3. Track record in attracting external funding from competitive grant schemes and other sources such as philanthropy and industry.
  4. Track record in publishing research in high-ranking scientific journals.
  5. Demonstrated experience in teaching and supervising at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  6. Demonstrated experience working within collaborative research groups and as the leader of a research team.
  7. Postdoctoral experience working in the field of pain and with a demonstrated commitment to advancing knowledge to deliver better healthcare.
