About the opportunity
NSW Health Pathology is currently seeking an experienced Transfusion Scientist to join our Transfusion department at Royal North Shore Hospital. By joining our tam you will be working alongside dedicated professionals delivering full range of blood products and comprehensive transfusion testing services to RNS campus, including NSLHD network. This is a rewarding and dynamic role, ideal for an energetic and professional team player ready to make a difference. The successful applicant will be required to participate in a flexible 24/7 roster.
What you'll be doing
Responsible for delivering a broad range of operational transfusion laboratory activities within a major trauma service, including provision of timely and accurate pre-transfusion testing, blood component management, emergency blood issue support, and participation in critical bleeding and massive transfusion responses. The role contributes to the coordination and delivery of scientific and technical training, competency assessment, and ongoing review, development and quality management of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation and operational standards, while supporting quality improvement, service continuity, and patient safety in a high-acuity 24/7 environment.

- Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to Haematology and/or Transfusion Science from a recognised tertiary institution
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of transfusion services and testing, including use of Laboratory Information Systems, Patient Systems and Quality Control Systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office suite
- Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
- Ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner and to manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment while working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes and contribute to a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory
- Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology laboratory and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the laboratory environment
- Sound understanding of legislation, policies and requirements that impact the laboratory environment including work health and safety and privacy requirements
