About the Role
The Integrated Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (IMHAOD) District Allied Health Coordinator is a key member of the IMHAOD Senior Leadership Team (SLT) working closely with core members of the IMHAOD SLT. The position will work with the allied health leaders to ensure allied health clinical governance and professional standards. Fostering an environment that promotes professional practice, standards and development within the allied health workforce.
The position will work closely with the Director of Nursing District Managers and senior allied health clinicians (Mental Health & AOD) and provide advice to the IMHAOD Director and Medical Director. The IMHAOD District Allied Health Coordinator will be responsible for professional standards and clinical governance for all IMHAOD allied health staff including but not limited to:
Introduction of evidence-based approaches to allied health care and practice.
Assist in development, maintenance and evaluation of professional standards of practice and by monitoring performance, embedding a culture of continuous quality improvement and reducing the risk of clinical variation.
Lead and support service and system reforms across mental health and alcohol and other drugs through allied health input, ensuring alignment with contemporary models of care, policy directions, and strategic priorities.
Allied Health workforce planning and development.
Identify areas of risk within the allied health profession and develop mitigation strategies as part of the
Clinical Governance/Risk Management framework.
- Review, management and monitoring of industrial issues.
- Professional governance of allied health staff, including recruitment, retention, performance appraisals, professional development, and fostering a positive work environment to promote employee well-being
The position reports directly to the Director of Integrated Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Services. This role is location negotiable within the Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD), with office locations available in Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie.
About the Role
You are an accomplished allied health professional with a degree or higher qualification in your discipline such as Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, Exercise Physiology, Social Work, Counselling, or Clinical Psychology holding current AHPRA registration or eligibility for professional membership with the relevant Australian professional association. You bring broad clinical experience in mental health or drug and alcohol services, underpinned by strong professional expertise.
You have extensive experience and skills in policy development, planning and evaluation, clinical governance, change management, and allied health service development. You are adept at introducing and supporting innovative practice models that drive quality improvement and contribute to service and system reform.
As a leader, you possess the ability to motivate, inspire, and organise teams, achieving organisational, program, and professional outcomes, with experience managing projects within complex healthcare environments. You have a proven track record in identifying and analysing clinical services, leading the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based best practice, and applying contemporary, person-centred models of care that are recovery-oriented, culturally sensitive, and considerate of patient flow across the broader health and social service system.
You demonstrate a deep understanding of consumer-focused clinical service delivery, best practice principles, and ongoing reform within mental health and alcohol and other drugs services. In addition, you have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated experience providing concise, timely, and accurate reports in a variety of formats, including briefs, reviews, and ministerial correspondence.
