About the Role
Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking an experienced Clinical Audit Officer to support and strengthen clinical governance, patient safety, and quality improvement activities across the district.
In this highly specialised role, you will work closely with clinicians, clinical governance teams, and external stakeholders to coordinate clinical audit and peer review programs, including mortality and patient safety initiatives. You’ll play a key role in translating complex clinical data into meaningful insights that drive improvement and support best practice care.

About the Role / Key Responsibilities

•    Support and facilitate clinician participation in district-wide mortality clinical audit and peer review programs, including mortality and patient safety initiatives
•    Liaise with internal stakeholders and external agencies to ensure compliance with mortality clinical audit and reporting requirements
•    Coordinate the collection, review, analysis, and submission of clinical audit and mortality data within prescribed timeframes
•    Provide expert advice and guidance to clinicians on mortality clinical audit processes, patient safety reporting, and incident management requirements
•    Develop and deliver communication and education strategies to improve clinician awareness and engagement in mortality audit and governance activities
•    Review and analyse clinical data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for quality and safety improvement
•    Contribute to clinical governance and patient safety projects as directed, including system improvement initiatives
•    Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive clinical information in line with legislative and policy requirements
 

About You
You are a confident health professional who brings credibility, clarity, and collaboration to everything you do. You are comfortable working with clinicians, navigating sensitive information, and influencing quality improvement through strong communication and sound judgement.

You will bring:
•    A clinical or health-related qualification, or significant experience working in a healthcare setting
•    Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clinicians, senior leaders, and external agencies
•    Demonstrated understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, risk management, and quality improvement
•    The ability to analyse clinical data and contribute to meaningful system and practice improvements
•    Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet reporting deadlines
•    Confidence working across multidisciplinary environments and geographically dispersed teams
