What you'll be doing
This role is part of the Safe Wayz program which coordinates an integrated response for children under the age of criminal responsibility (currently 10 years in NSW) with problematic or harmful sexual behaviours (PHSB).
Safe Wayz adopts a strength-based, family- focused and culturally centred trauma-informed approach to working with children and their families to help prevent behaviours from escalating.
The team is supported through a State-Wide clinical network, who will provide clinical and cultural connections, and support in undertaking this work. Safe Wayz Clinicians will have access to individual cultural supervision.
This role will coordinate primary prevention initiatives, provide early support for children and families to address behaviours when they are first identified, and coordinate pathways into specialist counselling services for children and families who need them.
The role will also undertake a small clinical case load and coordinate cultural consultation to support non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clinicians working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
This role will have a professional development plan in place that will provide the opportunity for work-based development which allows for progression through the Award levels in accordance with the position holder’s skill acquisition.
It is expected staff appointed who undertake to complete the required qualifications will complete these within a defined time frame.
About you
A minimum of three years’ experience and a; Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other equivalent qualification providing eligibility for membership of AASW qualifications; or a Bachelor’s degree in Counselling; or current full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer such as a Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health); a Bachelor Social Science (Djirruwang programme) or related field; or have completed an ECAV qualification pathway- Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services (Interpersonal Trauma).
- Demonstrated ability to create Aboriginal community connections, engagement and collaboration to affect outcomes with an understanding of intergenerational trauma, contextual and causal factors for violence, abuse and neglect and the principles of cultural safety.
Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. All applicants must supply either a letter of Aboriginality signed under the common seal from a recognised incorporated Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community organisation such as Land Council or Elders group, Aboriginal Medical Service or a letter on letterhead from a Local Aboriginal Land Council demonstrating membership of the Council.
