An exciting opportunity exists to join the Emergency Department at Wollongong Hospital.
ISLHD is an accredited provider of the Workplace Based Assessment (WBA) Program, which provides an alternative pathway for IMGs to AMC Part 2 Clinical Exam. All candidates to the ISLHD WBA Program are current employees with a contract that incorporates the duration of the program. Selection to the WBA Program is separate to the workplace recruitment process, is highly competitive and not guaranteed. Applicants are accessed via a merit-based process. Candidates require a rotational RMO or Emergency Department position to apply.

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
Wollongong is located an hour’s drive south of Sydney on a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra Escarpment to the west. What you'll be doing
The position of Career Medical Officer (CMO) would suit junior doctors of at least 4 years post graduate experience including significant Emergency Medicine experience although not a registered trainee of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM). Qualified specialists from other training colleges (such RACGP or ACRRM) or practitioners with adequate experience to supervise the department at night are preferred. Post-graduate qualifications in Emergency Medicine such as the Emergency Medicine Certificate (ACEM) or Emergency Medicine Diploma (ACEM) are desirable. The CMO will participate in a seven-day per week roster which includes evening and night shifts.

Selection Criteria:
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Five years postgraduate experience or greater (CMO Grade 2) or less than five years postgraduate experience (CMO Grade 1). At least four years postgraduate experience is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Participation in after-hours roster commitments and rotations to other emergency departments in the ISLHD if required
- Sufficient skills knowledge and experience to practice as a safe and competent Emergency CMO
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to coordinate services across multiple providers
- Good leadership and teamwork skills
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
