Fellowed General Practitioners

Full Time and Part Time training opportunity for

Advanced Skills Training in Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics & Palliative Care, and Rural Generalist Refresher Training (Anaesthetics)


Opportunities are available to complete advanced skilled training as a Fellowed General Practitioner with competitive rates of remuneration for the duration of the training. We can offer training to acquire skills as a Rural Generalist to be utilised in rural NSW. Training opportunities are currently available for Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Obstetrics, Palliative Care and Rural Generalist Refresher Training (Anaesthetics). Our positions are available in Orange, Bathurst and Mudgee.

 

There is a requirement at Orange for Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics positions that you will participate in the full roster, inclusive of night shifts and on-call.

What you’ll be doing

Provision of a consistent Rural Generalist Medical service to patients of Western NSW LHD (WNSWLHD), coordination of clinical management of patients consistent with the plans of the Admitting Medical Officer and improvement in the continuity of care within WNSWLHD and between the hospital and the community.

 

The General Practitioner Procedural Training Program with WNSWLHD offers Fellowed General Practitioners flexible Advanced Skills Training opportunities at:

·         Orange Hospital (Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Paediatrics);

·         Bathurst Hospital (Emergency Medicine and Obstetrics);

·         Psychiatry (various facilities within the Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Services within WNSWLHD);

·         Palliative Care Medicine (varying facilities across WNSWLHD); and

·         Mudgee Hospital (Rural Generalist Refresher Training – Anaesthetics).

 

This program is available to Fellowed General Practitioners wanting to acquire or maintain procedural skills for use in rural NSW. It is recognised that General Practitioners undertaking procedural training are most likely to have established practices, therefore training may be flexible to allow continuation of part time work in the practice. The procedural training specialty should be appropriate to the service needs of the rural community in which they intend to practice. Recruitment will be focused on GPs proposing to take up rural practice who are residing in, or are prepared to reside in and practice as a General Practitioner in rural NSW.

 

The General Practice Procedural Trainee will be engaged as a Senior Registrar under the Public Hospital Medical Officers (State) Award with a salary of $156,494 per annum. The Trainee will receive an allowance to increase total remuneration to the level of Staff Specialist Year 5, Level 1 as per the Staff Specialists (State) Award, in line with Award increases.

Essential Requirements:

 

1.     MBBS or equivalent and currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia, with at least 3 years postgraduate experience and appropriate training and experience to undertake Advanced Skills Training.

2.     Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and/or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.

3.     Valid unrestricted Driver Licence for use in NSW/Australia.

4.     Valid NSW Employee Working with Children Clearance.

5.     Aged Care Clearance for Government Funded Aged Care positions.

 

Selection Criteria

 

1.   Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.

2.   Demonstrated ability to exercise a moderate degree of professional independence within a supervised complex clinical encironment utilising excellent skills, judgement and expertise.

3.   Demonstrated skills in and commitment to improvements in clinical care, patient safety and risk management processes, including the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to achieve change.

4.   High level interpersonal communication and team skills, and a sensitive approach to communication with patients, carers, other professionals, and the public.

5.   Demonstrated expierence and well-developed skills in working within health care organisations and the outside community, including capacity to use electronic communications (e.g. electronic records) effectively.

6.   Evidence of participation in continuing professional development and commitment to the broader service objectives of the public health system, including the effective utilisation of resources, and participation in activities beyond direct patient care.

7.   Demonstrated commitment to practicing medicine and advanced skill in a regional or rural setting in New South Wales.
