Provide assistance to the clinical teaching and educational support to medical students from the Joint Medical Program of the University of Newcastle and University of New England attending Calvary Mater Hospital.

Opportunity to undertake clinical fractional appointment in addition to this role (0.5FTE) dependant on preferred applicant and service provision.


What you'll be doing 

Applicants are required to: 

  • Support medical students from the JMP in their clinical placements at Calvary Mater Hospital
  • Serve as a link between the University and Calvary Mater Hospital
  • Participate in the formal and informal educational training of medical students.
  • Provide supervision, support, mentoring and teaching of medical students.
  • In collaboration with Clinical Dean, organize and facilitate education sessions/timetables for medical student rotations at CMN. 
  • Contribute to the development of innovative education and training methods and approaches. 
  • Participate and assist in medical student orientation. 
  • Assist medical students with self-care matters. 
  • Participate in bedside teaching.
  • Participate in medical student evaluation or performance management in liaison with senior medical staff and the Clinical Dean.
  • Develop a working understanding of curricular, standards and policies relevant to medical student education. 
  • Participate and engage in continuing professional development and educational activities. 
  • Participate in program evaluation and quality assurance.

Where you'll be working

You will be working in the Calvary Mater Clinical School, located within the Hospital. 

Calvary Mater Newcastle hospital in Waratah (NSW), is an Affiliated Health Organisation of NSW Health providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. It is the major cancer care centre for the district and provides an Emergency Department open 24 hours seven days a week, an Intensive Care Unit, and extensive Palliative Care services.   

Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement. Leave types may include but not limited to Long Service Leave, Annual Leave and Sick Leave. Applicants are encouraged to discuss this with the Convenor for further information.

  • Engage in research in medical education within the Joint Medical Program
  • Develop skills in Debriefing, including participating in an Essentials of Debriefing and Feedback Course
