Paediatric Unaccredited Trainee positions are available at The Children's Hospital Westmead (CHW) and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH), for up to two years to commence as soon as possible within the current clinical year.


The Trainee will: 
• Experience working in diverse medical specialties with a broad focus in Paediatrics & Child Health
• Complete paediatric rotations as part of requirements for Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN) within a range of hospitals and health services
• Duties will be performed at more than one place of work
• Build on skills learned during previous paediatric experience and work towards paediatric training.


The Trainee will rotate through 3-6month terms which provide a wide paediatric experience. Rotations may include General Paediatrics, Paediatric Acute Care, Relief or Paediatric Subspecialties. In addition to rotations at either SCH or CHW, rotations occur in a variety of locations and clinical departments including (but not limited to) the below. Some facilities may be outside of NSW.

  • SCH: Albury-Wodonga Hospital, Bankstown Hospital, Bowral Hospital, Campbelltown Hospital, Canberra Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital, North Shore Hospital, Shoalhaven Hospital, St George Hospital, Sutherland Hospital, Wagga Wagga Hospital, Wollongong Hospital

  • CHW: Blacktown/Mt Druitt Hospitals, Campbelltown Hospital, Fairfield Hospital, Hornsby Hospital, Liverpool Hospital, Nepean Hospital, Blue Mountains Hospital, Bathurst Base Hospital, Dubbo Base Hospital, Orange Base Hospital, Lismore Hospital, Westmead Hospital

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

  2. Minimum of 3 years postgraduate experience, minimum 12 months recent paediatric experience.

  3. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development. This includes demonstrated ability to teach and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff. Please provide an example.

  4. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the appropriate management of the patient. Please provide an example.

  5. Demonstrated experience in taking comprehensive patient histories, performing clinical examinations and accurately documenting in patient records. Please provide an example.

  6. Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment. Please provide an example.

  7. Demonstrated clinical competency in procedures in paediatric environments including venepuncture, intravenous cannulation, and neonatal resuscitation. Please provide an example.

  8. Proven ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks. Please provide an example.
