The Paediatric Surgical Trainee - Unaccredited Position at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH), is available for the 2025 Clinical Year for up to 12 months. The position provides an opportunity to a trainee to further develop paediatric skills in the spheres of clinical care, surgical procedures, education, research and supervision under the supervision of consultant paediatric surgeons.  

The Trainee’s responsibilities will include providing surgical support to the patients of paediatric Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), trauma and emergency support to the patients in all clinical areas of the hospital including the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, inpatient and outpatient areas and at the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW). The Trainee will have a role in teaching of junior medical officers, nurses and undergraduates.

Selection Criteria:

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category

  2. Minimum three years postgraduate experience

  3. At least 12 month previous surgical experience, with substantial paediatric experience being highly desirable

  4. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

  5. Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals

  6. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff

  7. Demonstrated skills in time management, prioritisation and problem solving

  8. Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education
