The Role
As a Staff Specialist in Palliative Care Medicine with us, you will:

  • Provide direct clinical care to patients and families referred to our Palliative Care Service, with a strong focus on community-based care.
  • Utilise telehealth, conduct home visits, and manage outpatient clinics.
  • Offer consultative services to Maitland Hospital and provide district-wide telehealth support as required.
  • Address patients’ concerns across physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual domains with sensitivity and expertise.
  • Develop comprehensive care plans, including contingency planning, aligned with patient and family goals.
  • Facilitate seamless transitions between care settings, including home visits.
  • Become part of a dedicated Palliative Care multidisciplinary team made up of experienced nurses, allied health, administration and other medical specialists, plus the wider HNELHD network.

What You Bring

  • Medical degree with eligibility for Specialist registration in Palliative Medicine with AHPRA.
  • Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or the Australian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (or nearing completion).
  • Recent experience in Palliative Medicine, ideally in a regional setting.
  • Expertise in symptom management, particularly safe and effective medication use, including subcutaneous administration.
  • Strong communication skills and cultural sensitivity to support diverse patient and family needs.
