Are you a passionate and skilled Geriatrician looking to make a meaningful impact in a thriving health service? Maitland Hospital is seeking a dedicated Geriatrician to provide a comprehensive consultative and inpatient and outpatient geriatric service, including Hospital in the Home, while contributing to medical education and advanced trainee supervision.
About the Role
We are looking for a motivated Geriatrician to enhance our medical services.
The role includes:
- Providing expert geriatric care to inpatients and consultative services.
- Delivering care through Hospital in the Home programs.
- Leading and contributing to educational activities for the Department of Medicine.
- Supervising advanced trainees, fostering the next generation of specialists.
- Willing to participate in clinical services development projects and change management.
Essential Criteria:
- Primary medical degree registered with AHPRA.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Geriatric Medicine).
- Recent, comprehensive experience in Geriatric Medicine.
- Dual Fellowship in Geriatric & General Medicine (desirable).
Maitland Hospital is a modern, state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2022, replacing the old Maitland Hospital. It serves as the major referral and district hospital for the growing Lower Hunter region, providing a broad range of acute and specialist healthcare services.

The Medical Department at Maitland Hospital is a key provider of specialist and acute medical care, with a strong focus on education, training, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Services include:
- General Medicine – providing comprehensive care for a diverse patient population
- Geriatric Medicine – inpatient care, consultative services, rehabilitation, and Hospital in the Home
- Acute and Chronic Disease Management – including heart failure, respiratory, oncology and diabetes services
- Palliative Medicine - providing direct clinical care to patients and families referred to our Palliative Care Service, with a strong focus on community-based care.
- Medical Education and Training – involvement in teaching, supervision of trainees, and professional development opportunities
- Collaboration with Tertiary Centres – working closely with John Hunter Hospital and other Newcastle-based facilities for specialist referrals and shared patient care
