What you'll be doing
This position is for junior medical officers to undertake 6 months of training in Anaesthetics to progress their knowledge and skills, and to provide them with the opportunity to assist with decision-making on a future career path. In addition they will:
  • Develop an understanding of Acute Pain Management for surgical patients and participate in the afterhours Pain Service.

AIMS/OBJECTIVES
  • To gain 6 months experience in Anaesthesia (under full supervision).
  • To gain skills in the pre-operative assessment and preparation of patients for surgery.
  • To gain basic technical skills as related to Anaesthesia, including vascular access, airway management and ventilation.
  • To gain skills in resuscitation and the management of cardiac arrest, and trauma.

    1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
    2. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
    3. Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
    4. Adept verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
    5. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
    6. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
    7. Interest in pursuing a possible career in either Anaesthesia or Intensive Care with some evidence of experience or study in relation to these disciplines.
