Paediatric SRMO positions are available at are appointed to either The Children’s Hospital Westmead or Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, to commence as soon as possible within in the current clinical year. The position is designed to give interested JMOs the opportunity to pursue up to 24 months of special skills training in paediatric medicine. This will provide an exposure to general aspects of medical care of infants, children and adolescents and will serve as a solid foundation of paediatric knowledge for use in your future clinical practice. The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, along with our training network sites, provides a high caliber of education for all junior trainees.
During this appointment the SRMO will:
• Experience working in diverse medical specialties with a broad focus in Paediatrics & Child Health
• Complete training rotations as part of requirements for network training within a range of hospitals and health services
• Perform interventions under supervision appropriate for level of training
• Undertake duties that will be performed at more than one place of work
• Become clinically proficient in the care of children
• Build on skills gained during medical degree to develop the professional qualities and attitudes and behaviours needed
Paediatric SRMOs will rotate through 3-month terms which provide the trainee with the widest paediatric experience. Rotations may include General Paediatrics, Paediatric Emergency, Paediatric Surgery, Relief or Paediatric Subspecialties. General medicine terms may occur at one of the secondment sites including those listed below:
• Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick: Sutherland Hospital, Northern Beaches Hospital, Campbelltown Hospital
• The Children’s Hospital at Westmead: Campbelltown Hospital
**Please note: These positions are accredited for General Practice. Applicants cannot be signed up for the Paediatric RACP training program.**
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Completed two years postgraduate clinical training.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in paediatrics.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team which includes other medical staff, allied health staff, nursing staff and other ward staff to ensure the appropriate management of the patient. Please provide an example.
- Demonstrated experience in taking comprehensive patient history, performing clinical examination and accurate documenting treatment in patient’s record. Please provide an example.
- Ability to demonstrate accurate decision-making and to seek further advice in accordance with level of experience and showing an awareness of limitations. Please provide an example.
- Proven ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks. Please provide an example.
- Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment. Please provide an example.
