Sydney Local Health District is seeking a highly motivated Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) to join Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

What you will be doing:

This position is ideal for SRMOs who wish to work toward applying for the Radiology Training Program. The position will provide clinical care to patients requiring Radiology services in a complex clinical environment, and experiences in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. The SRMO will observe and participate in all stages of Radiological examination including referral, triaging, prescribing oral and intra-venous contrast, checking for allergies, supervision, assistance with performance and communication of the procedure. The SRMO will also assist senior Radiologists in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology.

This role has a focus on excellence in teaching and will offer you training toward a higher qualification in Radiology under the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR).

The Department of Radiology

The Department of Radiology at RPA offers comprehensive diagnostic and interventional imaging services in a large tertiary referral hospital setting. Our Department is built around the delivery of the highest quality imaging care to our patients in a caring and professional environment. The Departments diagnostic imaging services provide critical clinical information directly impacting patient management in inpatient, emergency and outpatient settings through a wide array of modalities including CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy and Radiography.

Our subspecialist imaging services include:

  • Neuroradiology
  • Musculoskeletal imaging
  • Abdominal and pelvic imaging
  • Thoracic and Cardiovascular imaging.

 

RPA Radiology also performs abundant imaging guided interventional procedures with diagnostic and therapeutic results which enhance patient care. Services cover the full range of imaging guided interventions including angiography, imaging guided biopsies and drainages, biliary and urological interventions, oncologic interventions and vascular access, and neurovascular and neurointerventional procedures. 

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to engage in a diverse range of imaging settings and participate in the care of patients from multiple clinical disciplines and settings. They will be a key member of the team guiding a patient through their imaging encounter in both diagnostic and interventional settings. Through this role, the applicant will obtain valuable experience in providing imaging care, and gain a better understanding of the technical aspects of imaging as well as appropriate use of clinical imaging services.

RPA specialities include cardiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, cancer, respiratory medicine, neurology, liver and kidney transplants. RPA Radiologists provide diagnostic and interventional services for these specialties, including advanced cancer imaging at the RPA Radiology service at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Minimum 2 years post graduate experience and recent provision of clinical care.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services.
  5. Adept verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  6. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  8. Interest in pursuing a possible career in Radiology with some evidence of experience or study in relation to relevant disciplines.
