WSLHD - JMO - Senior Resident Medical Officer - Addiction Medicine

The primary responsibility of the Drug Health SRMO is to provide high quality, evidence-based care to patients with substance use disorders, mainly in ambulatory settings, under the supervision of staff specialists & other more senior medical staff.
Where You’ll be Working

Western Sydney Local Health District is responsible for the provision of health services to the local government areas comprised of Cumberland, The  Shire, Blacktown, , and Parramatta LGA’s and tertiary care to some patients external to WSLHD.  These services are provided through a number of hospital and community-based facilities located strategically across the District.

Western Sydney Local Health District is committed to achieving continuous quality improvement in client services within a Quality Management framework, with a supporting Strategic Plan aimed at the continuous improvement of all facilities. The District has individual facilities located at Westmead, Cumberland, Auburn, Blacktown and Mount Druitt. In addition, Drug Health has facilities in community health centres at Merrylands, Parramatta, Doonside and Castle Hill.

All hospitals provide a range of both in-patient and outpatient services to clients both from within the boundaries of the District and cross border flows. In addition to this, there are a number of facilitates strategically located across the District that provide primary health care services to the community.

The primary goal of Western Sydney Local Health District is:  To improve the health of, and ensure comprehensive health care services for, our community.

·         Its principal purposes are:

§  To provide relief to sick and injured persons through the provision of care and treatment.

§  To promote, protect and maintain the health of the community.

What You’ll be Doing

·         The primary responsibility of the Drug Health SRMO is to provide high quality, evidence-based care to patients with substance use disorders, mainly in ambulatory settings, under the supervision of staff specialists & other more senior medical staff.

·         The Drug Health SRMO will provide day to day clinical management of patients with substance use disorders in accordance with Drug Health and LHD policies and procedures, and relevant NSW Health and national guidelines.




Qualifications - External

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Expectation of continuing professional training with a view to eventual completion of a relevant College qualification.
  3. Excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement, with at least 2 years prior hospital experience.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team – with appropriate levels of diligence, punctuality, organization, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills and team work.
  5. Excellent communication (verbal and written) in English and familiarity with computer programs, to facilitate use of electronic medical records (e.g. Cerner ‘Powerchart’).
  6. Demonstrated ability to provide empathic, non-judgmental and expert clinical care.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing advanced training education, research and teaching; demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  8. Completion of the Opioid Treatment Accreditation Course (OTAC) or a commitment to do so prior to commencing employment.
