What you'll be doing
The Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Clinician (PIMHC) plays a vital role in supporting women and families within WSLHD, addressing severe mental health challenges during the perinatal period. The position combines clinical care, leadership, research, education, and service planning.

  • Provides specialist clinical care for women and infants up to 24 months with severe mental health challenges.
  • Leads assessment and management of complex perinatal cases, enhancing clinical processes and practices.
  • Engages in research to advance perinatal mental health and shares findings through publications and presentations.
  • Designs and delivers specialised education programs to build capacity across WSLHD services.
  • Contributes to strategic planning, shaping service models for comprehensive family support.

Essential requirements

  • Qualification:  Post graduate qualification in a clinical health field, such as Social Work and Occupational Therapy or completion of a recognised Master's or Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology 
  • Registration: Current Registration: Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse/ Psychologist/ Occupational Therapist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligibility to be a member of the AASW as a Social Worker

 

Selection Criteria

  1. For CNC Role: Registered Nurse who has at least 5 years full time post registration experience, and approved post registrations nursing qualification (in relevant field) such as perinatal, child, youth and/adult mental health.
  2. Demonstrated experience in working with parents and families with infants experiencing severe and complex psycho social and psychiatric problems in the perinatal period with demonstrated knowledge of the impact of mental health problems and mental illness on parenting, parent – infant relationships and infant development.
  3. Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and experience in clinical teaching.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of computerised information systems and proven ability to utilise research / quality improvement strategies to effect changes in clinical practice.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  6. Capacity to act as an independent consultant with excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  7. Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia.
