About the opportunity
The Stem Cell Transplant Unit at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is seeking a Senior Hospital Scientist with current experience in quality management systems and advanced knowledge of FACT/JACIE standards, TGA guidelines and NPACC standards to act as the Quality Manager for cellular therapies in the Sydney Local Health District. The successful candidate will be expected to fill the role for a period of 8 months to relieve the incumbent.

The position is based in the Haematology Department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, NSW. The Haematology Department has a long history of performing bone marrow and stem cell transplants and administering other cell therapies including, more recently, CAR-T cell therapies.

What you'll be doing
The position oversees the quality, accreditation and operational integrity of cellular therapies of the Sydney Local Health District.
Responsible for the management of scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the assigned laboratory. The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the department, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the department, human resource, business and resource management.

  1. Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution
  2. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with negotiation skills, report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
  3. Proven leadership and management skills and experience in quality management systems
  4. Advanced knowledge of FACT/JACIE standards, TGA guidelines and NPACC standards relevant to cellular therapies.
  5. Extensive experience working in the laboratory including experience in staff training and competency assessment
  6. Demonstrated understanding and sound knowledge of accreditation frameworks, relevant standards and quality systems
